Our Story
Race Capitol is an award-winning local podcast and radio show that uncovers racial narratives in Richmond, Virginia—the fallen capital of the confederacy. Our show was founded by Chelsea Higgs Wise and is currently co-hosted by Chelsea, Naomi Isaac, and Kalia Harris.
Our show’s origin story begins after Marcus-David Peters was unjustly murdered by a Richmond Police officer in May of 2018. Out of the consistently dehumanizing erasure of Marcus within the media, and the need for the People’s narratives to be shared, Race Capitol was born.
Throughout the uprisings for Black liberation that intensified over the summer of 2020, Race Capitol has served as a critical platform to bring the movement in the streets for total liberation to the airwaves. We center the voices and narratives of those engaged in the struggle for freedom.
Race Capitol broadcasts from WRIR LP 97.3 FM Richmond Independent Radio. We are produced and powered by Black feminists to activate your awareness.
